Blog # 2 Banning T-shirts

Our topic this time is about “freedom of speech.” We are living in America where freedom and liberty are our most precious properties of our nation. What are our rights especially as students regarding the banning about T-shirts with messages or pictures? I think that everyone has a right to express themselves through their action, through their clothes, their behaviors, etc. However, we need to know the limit in expressing without violating the law, hurting others, etc. It’s very easy to cross the line from just expressing who you are to prejudicing others. Moreover, people need to look at what that particular person is doing to understand the message he is giving without over criticizing him because of his appearance. In my opinion, both schools shouldn’t ban the T-shirts. It didn’t violate the school regulations at all. Why didn’t school authorities look at other T-shirts with horrible pictures, messages such as skulls, bones, bloody battle, and weapons? Which is not appropriate here, a picture supports our new President or the picture of bloody face killer?

  1. i agree with you nancy i think that yes with all have rights but thoes rights do have limits too and i dont think that the school should have banned the t-shirt. but i think that as time passes the people in control want to control what the people should do more and more and their only excuse is that its to keep as safe so in the future expect to have our life fully controlled.

  2. I agree that people need to know the limits of freedom of speech. It should not be used to violate the law or hurt others. You can say what you want to say as long as you don't take the rights of another individual.

  3. i like your opinion about letting people express who they are but how can they fully express who they are if you want to take away what they can and cannot do or say

  4. "It’s very easy to cross the line"... I totally agree with your words. In my on personal experience let me tell you that there are going to be times that you will be pointed out becuse of some simple act or error you do. Moreover there are people out there that are just looking around to see what they can say about you! I also agree with you when you mention how there are worse t-shirts with worse messages.
